I'm trading in one of my 97 Doos, an XP, for a new ski in a few months. I have it narrowed down to either a Yamaha XL800 or Polaris Virage TX. I realize the TX has a little more power and less weight but I'm not overly concerned with which is faster. I want rock solid reliability and a fairly 'newbie-friendly' ski that I can let anyone ride (I'm sick of worrying about my XP in inexperienced hands). Also, under $8k in price would be nice. Due to location it's next to impossible to do any riding comparisons before buying. Most dealers here have the attitude that if you want to ride it, buy it first. So I have to decide by research, in the showroom and word of mouth.
So - Any comments from owners of either one would be appreciated.

If you want to buy it and ride with NO mods, get the TX. It's a sweet ride, handles great, good stability, and yes, it will blow that XL800 away when you realize you really DID care about top speed after you've owned it a while. It happens to everybody. You just can't fight it.

I've never ridden a Polaris PWC before but I do have a '98 Yamaha XL760. I bought the XL for the girlfriend to ride since she was inexperienced in the area of watercraft. I was only able to ride it a few months and then my season was over but I never had even the slightest hint of a problem. The thing is very stable and she was able to get it to right about 55mph (according to the speedo
