I have been riding standup watercrafts for the last 10 years and am quite disappointed in the fact that the industry has migrated away from producing new improved standups.

There has been a number of significant improvements made for sit downs, including hull designs and an amazing 100% increase in horsepower whereas standups have not changed within the last 5 years.

I own a 95 Kawasaki Sxi which is rated at 85 hp (this was the only year that they had that much hp). Since then, Kawasaki and Yamaha have only produced stock standups with only 75 hp.

I would like to see the manufacturers start stepping up to the plate and giving us standup jockeys a reason to buy a new ride (besides changing the color and pinstripes). We need more power, speed, better handling and adrenalyn.

Standup riders take a stand!! Lets make sure that our sport does not go the way of the dinasaurs.

Don't get me wrong.... I like riding sit-down skis, but lets face it... Once you have done it vertically, you won't go back to sitting on your ride!

I might have mistaken but I don't think Kawasaki has any stock standup ski with more than 75 hp. 1995 is the only year that Kawasaki released both 750SX (63 hp - single carb) and 750SXi (75 hp - dual carb). 75hp is (IMO) quite adequate for most people. Most diehard owner would go aftermarket performance mods if they need to increase the horse power beyond stock.

I would hope that the manufactures would at least add a gas gauge and maybe trim. Speed/rpm gauges would be nice too. I alternate my two favorite riding spots quite frequently. one site is 700' elevation while the other is 7000'. I would be happy to have a DI-engine standup and forget about

4-stroke stand-up ski...yeah Steve..keep on dreaming!

I'm sure every standup rider would echo your sentiments, what is it you propose that everyone do?

Nope, it was 75 hp just like the 96+, only difference was a slight change in boost port configuration and different brand same size carburetors. Yamaha SJ's are 73 hp. Darin

watercrafts for the last 10 years and am quite disappointed in the fact that the industry has migrated away from producing

If you think there is a pent up market for improved standups you could design one, develop it, get some capital and produce it. I don't think the other standup manufacturers will worry too much about the competition because they probably have the opinion that their development dollars would be better spent elsewhere. If there was a need for better standups why wouldn't SeaDoo build one?

True, and sit downs have generally gotten bigger and heavier too. The manufacturers made the changes to their standups years ago that the majority of buyers wanted. They put a seat on it (X2) then they made it wider and longer (Waverunner) then they gave them more and more power and they sold like hotcakes.

Frankly I'm glad they don't alter the standups every year. To me you don't need to generate a buzz because of the boats specs. It's all in the ride. I just rode my 2000 Superjet yesterday and it was as much adrenaline as I could want. Plus I've still got a head, pipe and a prop to install. Then I'll probably put on the MSD Enhancer. I'll never get bored with it because it's always challenging. On the other hand, because for most people it's too challenging, the manufacturers will never spend big money upgrading them. There's just not enough buyers out there. I may sound pessimistic but to me it seems realistic. Also factor in that as I was riding yesterday it was so awesome that I was thinking that things don't get much better. You probably should get a ride on a newer Kaw 750 (I've heard great things about them or a 96+ Superjet (40 lbs. or so lighter than your 750). It would be a step up from what you have and there's still a lot of room for improvement and customization.. JMO,
