<< Just for a second, try to think like a businessman. Are you going to slam a craft and risk losing 25% of your manufacturer advertising? >>
By the same token, there are only 4 or 5 PWC magazines. Do you think the manufacturer would like to loose 20-25% of their advertising exposure, there are no other places to advertise on a regular basis really unless they go to 'normal' media which would probably be cost prohibitive as advertising in higher circulation publications costs more.
I do agree, more and more detailed technical articles would be great! And reviews earlier in the season would certainly be beneficial to us all, but that would leave the zines with nothing to publish later in the season. Lets facew it, we are not exactly a major market, therefore we most compromise or be willing to pay more for publications.
One of the reasons Watercraft Power magazine died, is probably due to publishing some pretty ambitious tech articles, which meant spending money on the R&D equipment etc. and with sush small circulation just couldn't survive. I do believe this to be the best PWC magazine ever published.
<< , but given the state of the industry, I think we're lucky to still have a *choice* in magazines so I'll take what they put out, up to a point. >>
I agree, though they are getting increasingly boring what with the repetitive nature. Seems like they all have the same sources so they all report the same stories repeatedly.
When I was a newbee all magazines were new and exciting, but the longer I participate in this sport the more tired the rags get!
