I have been out on the water most of the summer. Winter is coming and I am about to get a nice wetsuit to continue riding in the winter. Does anyone think the full wetsuit is overkill vs the half suit with not much on your legs and arms?

Please reply in email. thanks!

and wear a dry suit during the winter because I like it when I get finished riding I am still dry and warm and it is easy to adjust your warmth by what you wear for clothing.

I don't think the full wetsuit is overkill at all. It is nice to have both a full and a shorty but if its gonna be cold I would go with the full. Hope this helps. Danny

I have a full wetsuit, which is long arms and legs, and a pair of boots. If the air temperature is over 45F, I'll sweat like a pig, at least until I fall off. I rode last spring when the air temp was 50, and the water was about 40 to 45, and lost almost 5lbs in a few hours because of dehydration. I felt like I was roasting, and almost got sick. For the money, I'd get the drysuit. The full wetsuit next to the skin is just too damn hot for me, although some people may argue that. I'd go with the drysuit.

Dean,

I perfer a full length John wetsuit with a jacket.

My favorite cold weather/windy setup is the thin rubber 2 piece pants and jacket suits from Ronny. These are sold by Ronnie and the different PWC manufactures with their logos on them.

I hate those bulky stiff drysuits and one piece wetsuits !

That is an excellent point. Old school trick for cold weather riding was to bring a a gallon jug of warm water to prime your suit before hitting the cold lakes. Also we always brought a cooler that was filled with hot water so that we could soak our numb feet after we were done riding.

I like the 'Hot water prime trick' that's one I hadn't come across yet !

Also noteworthy is that some wetsuits are now made of a material that lets the water seep through from the outside so you don't have to 'dunk' or 'prime' I guess it sort of a 'self priming' system !

talk for your self i never used or use or will ever use the 'YELLER' stuff in my suit ...as for feet and hands getting cold run the by pass hose's in to the foot wells during the colder weather and a small primer hose to the hand grips to keep the fingers warm
