After enjoying my 750sx all last summer, and my 650sx the summer before, this winter I chose to do the upgrade thing to my ski. I really started towards the end of last summer being too lazy to put on some aprt I got <had to ski!> So they started making a pile in the corner of my living room. Silently growning as the months passed here in chilly Seattle. Sure enough, Xmas came around and the pile about doubled, so I figured it was time to get started on the '2001 a ski project'. January was filled with ebay wins and loss's but eventually, got everything I needed. A pipe, head, gasket kit, primer kit, carb kit <with new kets for the pipe>, flame arrester + adapter, some new grips A few days here and there looking up info on the web, here in newgroups, and generally asking around I had about as much info as I needed and started in on the ski. First came out all the old parts, then went in the new. A few minor problems like the wrong size flame arrester adapter, leaving that back hose clamp too loose for the exhaust, and dropping a socket deep someplace where I couldn't reach it we're about the extent of my problems. There we're many people who helped along the way, some from here in this group, others from sales on ebay <Robert Sand, hella cool guy>. Today a friend and I braved the 45f temps <prolly 38f water temp brrrrr!> in out new drysuits and went for some test runs. Everything went great <minus almost loosing both grips> which I had to laugh about because

^$$ and makin bubbles. It seems Lake Rats like myself are becomming a dieing breed, standup riders are nowhere to be found. All I can say is whoever doesn't do it, is missing out.

p.s. yes, the ski has super power throughout the powerband, I highly reccomend it

I noticed you say you use drysuits. I'm in canada on an sxi pro so i'm in the water a lot-cold water! Are they a lot warmer than a full wetsuit? is it easier to rip or tear them and how much and where can you get them? i'll buy one to get an extra month in. You think you never see standups - try looking for other riders in Ontario. Like you say - the fun factor of a stand up just can't be

Awesome!

I'll be on the water here in Louisville in my drysuit as soon as my crank gets back. Withdrawal is hurting pretty bad about now. Darin

Henry,

I live in Montana, and try to start riding my superjet in April (usually April 1, because we are the fools) The dry suit is MUCH warmer the a full wet, you can get a couple of different styles but I like the baggy suit so I can but a pair (or 2) of sweets to keep warm.

I have had my dry suit for 3 years and haven't ripped it yet, I did loan it to a friend and he tore the rubber around the neck, but that only cost about $25 to have replaced.

Mobbys carries a good dry suit for around $400.00, last time looked, but could be more now. If your looking for cheaper check out Overtons, but keep in mind you get what you pay for!!

Hope this helps

Glad I could help!! A helmet and goggles don't sounds like a good idea too, but I don't have them yet....nothing worse then getting hit with sleet while flying across the lake at 50mph.
