I'm in the mood for a new boat and can't decide if I want a Virage for my wife and I'll continue on the TX, or put her on the TX and get me an SLX. Any SLX owners out there with opinions? Any comments on Gene's Polaris country in TX?

Kelly, I love the look of that new SLX, but I personally wouldn't buy it. Way too much power for the hull unless you see flat water most of the time. I wish Polaris would come out with a new 2 seater already. You might be able to make it ride better, but at the loss of speed and money. IMO, the best 2 seater is still the XP. You should get another TX or get your wife the Virage 700 and keep your TX. Whatever you do, go demo the SLX in even slight ripples. If you like it, then it's for you, but I sure don't like it for my rough lake and ocean riding habits.

Hey Guys,

Polaris will be coming out with a redesigned watercraft to be released in 2002. This 2001 model year marks the end of the SL hull and deck. From what I hear they will be a much more aggressive V-hull style unlike the mod-V to flat hull on the current SL's. Just my two cents.

One thing I noticed was the difference in the hull. We talked about the SLs being the same all these years. Looking closer at the SLX, it's very different, at least in the front section. It has an undercut section up front s a built in deflector. Anyone know of any handling changes? I can't tell much in my pics I've collected. It doesn't look much different elsewhere. Tell me more about the handling. The only time I didn't care for the SL was in some 1 foot chop in Inks. I didn't care to put the TX in similar rough stuff in Somerville, although I'll admit it took much better. I spend 90% of my time in 4' and less. In other words, I never considered it a real issue on the SL in my area. So, is the SLX similar, or more pronounced with the extra weight/power? What's that about the slightest ripple? In calmer conditions, does it carve as well as the TX? Of course I'll ride first, but with the weather being on the cooler side, I may not get to thrash one like I would in the summer (cold water/my disease/long

I was impressed with them from the start. Friendly as hell and I got a grand knocked off right off the bat. It's a damned shame they're 2 hours away, and the shitty dealer is 15 minutes away... Oh well, it didn't bother me to drive by the one to get to the other. How are they on doing mods?

Kelly, I'm not an SLX owner but here's my opinion anyway. Put your wife on the TX and buy the SLX or PRO that way you end up with two awesome machines. I just bought a GP1200R for myself and now must decide on XP, Ultra, RX, or PRO for 'my wife', (get it... wink wink nudge nudge). One of the benefits of having a significant other is you can justify two awesome boats. Good luck making a decision. Danny

Good input! My thoughts on rough water are like this. Kim doesn't really like the rough, so even on a TX I doubt she'd be out much. If it's too much for a SLX, I have the TX to take out. Hmmm. Best of both worlds, kinda... Just thinking.

Are the optional mirrors worth a damn on this one folks? Expensive?

Kelly, My SL750 when I had it and my '96 SLX that I have now, ride and handle great, but they are not stock. My buddy has a 98 SLXH and it rides totally different than my 2 SL hull experiences. It porpoisies like crazy and always wants to be up in the air on 6'-1' or more chop. In the ocean, it is painfully dificult to ride. The hulls and pumps are all the same on these 3 (I had the 4' pump extension on the SL750). The difference being that I had the Ocean Pro rideplate and R&D top loder on my skis. The SL750 had the stock Polaris sponsons on it that I lowered from the stock position when I put them on. The SLX has the Chopper City sponsons in the down position. I was also running Skat Swirls and I think the new SLX comes with the Nu-Jet. I have the 6 vein s.s. stator that the new SLX does have though. I don't get a terribly rough ride with my ski and it stays hooked up well, but when I ride my buddys SLXH in slight chop, it just wants to catch air. If you don't mind spending a little money to fix this annoyance, then it will be a fine recreational ski. Expect to lose a little speed though on smooth water, but you will gain speed in rough and the ski will handle much better in all

That's not bad thinking. Have you considered the Pro1200? It will stick to the water better and carve a whole lot better than the SLX. It is however a little slower on pure glass, but I think it's a way better ski to own. That's the only Polaris 2 seater I would buy right now, if I were set on a Polaris only.
