Anyone see this completely ridiculous ban thats effective immediatly. All PWC's are banned for 1000 ft from anything thats considered Fire Island National Seashore. Ofcoarse theres no ban on any boat, yeah thats fair. Check out the links below for more info about this. We need to do something about this!

Yam, Do you know the boundaries of Gateway national seashore? Does the ban definately affect it also? I thought that was a National recreation area.

Skis are going to be banned within 1000' from shore on the ocean side and 1.5 MILES from the bay side (in the Great South Bay). I guess the rich folk on Fire Island finally got their way. Therefore that means Fire Island inlet will be offlimits to jektskis. You guys won't have access to the ocean unless you take your skis to Jones inlet or Moriches inlet. Good luck. I wonder how long before Jones Beach is affected too. The only reason they haven't touched Jones must be because nobody (including rich folk) live there.

I think before you jump to conclusions, you might want to look at the map of Fire Island and see the shaded area where the ban takes place, the Fire Island inlet will be a bit of a bitch to get to, but it's doable.

Now remember, these are Federal lands we are talking about here, Jones Beach is not, so lets stop the panik ha? Mario Back on the water again!! (c:

Fire Island Inlet and Moriches inlets will still be open to PWC's To access FI inlet you will have to stay North of East and West Fire Islands, but everything west of the Lighthouse is open.

Gateway is definately closed. That means all of Jamacia Bay and half of Rockaway inlet. I do not know if the park boundaries include all the waters between Rockaway point and Staten Island as Staten Island is the western boundary of the park.

no offence people , but why even discuss this now? you all that lived there should have taken action a long time ago when this started years ago. and for the light at the tunnel, i heard it was a 1 year ban only to see if the wildlife and sea creatures change with the absence of pwc , and they are also looking to see if the vegitation changes with the pwc ban . start fighting now because you have 1 year to get your shit together .

The ban still allows you to go through Fire island inlet. You just have to hug Captree when rounding the east end of Ocean pkwy

I agree with getting organized and attending all meetings pertaining to the matter. Also, writing a brief letter to local officials wouldn't hurt. In other words 'Get Involved' or permanently loose the previlige.

So lets do this. www.LIPWCA.com and www.LIJSA.com are both available to make for a website. There are over 10,000 registered pwc's on Long Island and there has to be at least 50 to 100 supporting business, between pwc resellers and service shops, rental companies, marine suppy stores, private boat ramps, and even restaurants that may be will to join. That could make for a powerful lobby in local government.

AS long as pwc owners don't role over and just accept these new regulations, and are willing to fight. And we should, we all enjoy riding, we all made a financial investment in buying and maintaining our craft, why should we be the one's to make a sacrafice? Fishermen and boaters have local associations and clubs its time we do too.

Anybody who's interested send me an email.
