Anyone ever have any problems with a 2000 xl ltd 1200? I've owned my craft for less than 2 mos, it's been in the shop for a month now. Problem with the carbs. Craft bogs and dies on take off. After a month in shop, 2nd time (mechanic broke reverse cable) got the craft back and the idle speed set to 2500. Now in addition to craft bogging I get exhaust temperature warning and engine does'nt stop when lanyard is pulled. Craft is now in the shop for the 3rd time. Also at full throttle the engine is now hesitating....Any advice on how to remedy my situation would be much appreciated....Yamahas customer service is the worst I have ever dealt with.

Aloha

Sounds like carb issues for sure, but a bad cat from the factory could be causing this mess too.

What did they say that they actually did to your ski? Give us all the info you have to try and help out. I still think it's carb or cat related even though it's brand new.

Right on SL, thanx. First time in mechanic said it was the spark plugs, he replaced them (coincided with 10hr service, what a surprise). Plugs were the first thing I replaced when problem started (which was immediately). So knew mechanic was wrong but took his word for it and went for a ride. Problem still occuring. Took it back, mechanic now said it was problem with carbs. He put new springs into carb that yamaha said would correct the problem. He then took springs out because he said craft ran worse with the new springs in. Said he might need to bore something. Not sure if he did that. Then on test ride mechanic broke the reverse cable (great yah) Got ski back after 28 days took out for test drive. Not only is craft bogging but it is also idling at 2500 and with no throttle cruising at 3-4mph in harbor, (no wonder reverse cable broke) Now ski is back in shop and have'nt heard a word. I am totally fed up with this bs. Now when they say its fixed I know that means absolutely nothing. Everyones dragging their feet. I got a lemon. I'm pissed i sold my 99 GP 1200 which had no problems ever and downgraded to a lemon.

I was invited to compete in a big wave surf event through www.swell.com winner gets $60,000....I NEED A SKI!!!

but i remain......high and dry thanx again SL for your help (and everyone else)

Since you now mention spark plugs, some have posted on here that they require the exact spark plug as specified in your manual. Check to see that they are the right plugs. It also sounds like they changed the pop off from your comment on the dealer putting new springs in the carbs. If they did do that, then they should have adjusted and dialed your carbs in, but I doubt that they did this because the XL has some sort of plugs in the adjuster locations. the dealer probably didn't want to mess with them because they are a pain to get to . I'm not too familiar with Yamahas, but the cat is still suspect to me. It's not unheard of to have a bad cat that's brand new.

In light of all of this mess, has anyone ever test ridden their boat before they buy? I don't mean the demo, but the one you are taking home. Sounds like it would be the intelligent way. We do it for cars, why not jetskies.
