FX1 is a 550 on steroids, light, great wave jumper, but put it in a 2 foot small lake chop and it can get pretty hairy, but it is by far the most fun to wake jump with. I have an early model superjet, granted it is stock(for now) but i can not get over how much side to side rock there is when you are driving straight, now i really like the way the 750 handles with th3e jd stuff, it carves very well, my opinion probably the best all around rec ski. SuperJet is great for high speed runs, not as sensitive to rider input. Any questions email me

Is it a 750 sx or sxi you have? I have ridden the sx, sxi and the sj. The sxi is probably going to offer you the most enjoyment. Darin, I couldn't imaging trying to jump ocean waves on your sj. God bless, I looped the thing from the wake of a bass boat. If you hit a Big wake I would think you would find yourself in a body cast. Get a deep water intake on an sxi and you will be set. Ohyeah, these a re my opinions, but Im almost always right.

With only two seasons of riding my Superjet, and no previous PWC riding experience, I took my 'Jet to the ocean. It only took a short while before I was jumping my 'Jet as far as the 70 HP and 5' to 8' waves would allow. I only took a few bails, but those were just part of the learning experience. Overall I found the 'Jet to be right at home racing around in the ocean.

There was one thing I had to get used to and overcome though. When I would leave the water and go airborne, I would release the throttle, but the rotational inertia of the spinning engine mass would cause my ski to want to rotate in the air. I'm sure this is a normal characteristic of these types of machines, but it took me a little while to acquire just the right skill to compensate for it upon take off. Once mastered, it really helped my wave riding experience.

Disclaimer - you pro wave riders are probably laughing at my infantile skill level, but it's all good

Darin,

You should hook up with me at the end of next summer for the EBN Fireworks cruise to Cinci. I usually take anywhere from 7 to 12 people and do a long weekend trip up the Ohio to Cinci. We take a bunch of jet skiis and beat the crap out of ourselves jumping and keeping up with my giant wave producing boat.

No kidding.... Do you know Herbie Fletcher or Bob Morgan?

I have a video from about '91 called 'Wave Hunters' and much of it was filmed in HA. I got the impression that Herbie grew up there, and he was the king of riding in the surf on the old 550's.

I think B. Morgan is the man behind the 'ShredMaster' one piece intake grate/rideplate for the SJ. I've always wanted to try one of those on my 'Jet.

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my standups this summer.

at present have a kawi 650sx (92), and 750sx (95), thinking about getting a newer kawi, or maybe superjet, or fx1, or combo.

only for rec use - but in surf mainly.

Any ideas - feedback greatly appreciated.

The best ski as far as power-to-weight is the FX-1, however the hull isn't very stable. I have ridden 550's in the surf (less powerful, but similar weight and hull), and the light weight and 701 power should equal MAJOR air (I can't wait to try mine out). The Superjets (particularly the older style) are the best combination of power and stability, and I wouldn't race anything else in the surf. I don't have much experience with the 750sx, but my feeling is that you'd be better off with the Superjet because of the weight difference. Oddly enough, my favorite hull in the surf is the 650sx. It isn't quite as stable as the Superjets, but it is easier to slide around without catching an edge, and it pulls out of a landing more easily. If it only had more power...

I'm totally in love with the FX1 so a bit biased (I own two - main ski and backup - along with an SXi, JS550 w/ 750 engine, and 750X2)... I have owned just about all the stand-up models at one time or another and think the FX1 is the best rec ski available. It is not a racing ski however.. the pump will not stay hooked up in the chop/prop-wash. If I wasn't so enamored with the FX and had to decide on the best combo of two skis, it would be an FX1 and a newer style SJ.

You can find FXs cheap, as long as the person does not frequent this board

My 96 SXi is the best all around for rec riding. Did I mention reliable?
