The 2 intake tracts behind the rotary valve have a step relief on the bottom of both openings. Thewre is also a very small hole drilled at the bottom of the step. Does anyone know what purpose this serves? It appears to be somewhat restrictive to a clean flow pattern. Especially since it affects the opening of one tract and closing of the other.

Leave it alone, it serves as a damper against crank turbulence. Unless you are in to racing.

I believe they are there to help the distribution of oil from the brass nozzles. I made mine go away and it seemed to make it somewhat pipey. But more top end.

Every case ported engine I've seen has that part removed. I asked the same question a couple of years ago and I believe Mr. HPT was suggesting that it is there to help the engine start easily. My personal conclusion is to remove it.
