My buddy has a 96 XP that he just had diagnosed with a seized mag cylinder, ring stuck on exhaust port and bad counter balancing shaft and crankshaft. The cause of the problem was also diagnosed as the 'water regulator' went out and caused all this. What is a water regulator on a Doo? I have never heard of such a thing. I will be seeing the engine this weekend to see if I can help my buddy out in fixing it, but the dealer description sounds bad. My buddy also told me that the head was fine and nothing looked unusual. He is by no means any type of 2 stroke anything, but until I see everything myself, I want to run some of this by you guys and get some input.

The water regulator is in no way tied into the motor internally, and was not the reason his motor took a dump. Whoever the dealer is, it is a dealer he should stay away from.

The dealer is blowing smoke!! I bet the cause of his disaster was some carbs that need cleaning. If the carbs have never been off and cleaned, especially the internal filters, 9 times out of 10, it's the cause.

They probably have never been cleaned. The ski gets serviced regularly, but who knows what the dealer does to it.

Bill, Thanks. It is your buddies just west of you on the 210 I told him to get it out of there after they quoted him $2600 with a diagnosis that didn't make sense to me. I will check it out this weekend and told him to take it to you if he wants to fix it. I am thinking an SBT swap might be the way to go. He bought a new XP and this ski is going to be sold, so I don't know what he wants to do with it. I am still curious as to what a water regulator is. Is there another name for it that I might be more familiar with? I have never tinkered with a Doo, so I'm just trying to learn.

SL, Have him bring it to me. It is only 2 miles from there to my new shop. Maybe I'll buy it from him if he doesn't want to fix it.

Tell him to go east on Arrow Hwy. I am at the corner of Arrow and Grand in Glendora., northeast corner, behind the barbershop. He can see me off to the left from the intersection of Grand and Arrow.

New address: 444 W. Carter Dr. Glendora, Ca. 91740 626 914 9509

Bill, He already picked it up a couple of days ago before I started the thread. He called me to tell me the details and that's when I told him about you. I will be seeing him this weekend and I will let him know about your offer.

The water regulator is the RAVE valve on the waterbox. It's function is to control exhaust stinger cooing. It is not IJSBA legal, so there is a way to eliminate it and, at the same time, tune exhaust temperature for mximum performance. The Sea-Doo race manual explains in detail. Good luck.

Yes it is race legal. Ever since they started allowing ECWI in 1996.
