Hello,

I have a 95 Seadoo XP model, and it seems to be burning alot of oil (based on heavy white exhaust smoke.) I have the Seadoo service manual and it shows a test to check the oil pump output. It involves removal of the pump, connecting the input shaft to an electric drill, and running the drill in reverse at a certain rpm to equal a certain oil output. Is there anyway to just reduce the amount of oil that is injected into the fuel. My ratio seems way to high with the smoke output in exhaust.

Thanks, Ted

Are you actually having to refill your oil resivour much more frequently or just going off the amount of the smoke?

And what type of oil are you running? Most of the time, switching to a low smoke blend will resolve your smoking issue.

I'm using Sea-doo brand oil (non synthetic). It smokes more than my brother's 93 SPX. I realize he has the 580 motor and I have the 720 series, but mine smokes considerably more. As far as oil use, I did find a slow leak from somewhere in the oil injection system, so I have a hard time tracking oil usage. I traced the lines from the oil resivoir tank (2 on bottom of tank) and didn't seem to find any leaks there. I possibly suspect the in-line white plastic oil filter. Even so, I don't see how oil leaking into the sump would cause extra smoke from the exhaust. After I figure out the source of the leak, I'll try to troubleshoot the excess smoking. If I have a blown 'oil seal' or similar, on the oil pump, maybe this could cause leaking as well as excessive oil in fuel mix, causing smoking??

thanks again, Ted

Doubt that is the problem. Check out the 2 small lines coming from the pump to the inlet nipple on the RV cover. These lines usually start to crack and leak oil. The bend closest to the cover is where they start to crack. As for the smoking, try using some- thing more along the lines of Maxima Super M injector oil. I know it cost more but it is a smokeless and might cure your smoking. Also, have you checked your plugs to see their condition/coloring?

By 'doubt' I mean the seal issue being the leak.
